New Roofs in Netherfield: Terraces, Inter-War and Newer Homes
Netherfield is a suburb of long terraced rows, inter-war streets and a scattering of newer homes, and each of those asks for a different approach to a new roof. In a terrace the roof is part of a continuous line, so the way a new covering meets the neighbour's roof at the party wall matters as much as the covering itself.

Evans Roofing Services is based in Beckingham and covers Netherfield and the nearby suburbs of Carlton and Gedling. We install new tiled, slate and flat roofs, and we plan each job around the building as it stands, with access and neighbouring properties in mind.
Replacing a roof on a terrace or inter-war house
A full replacement means stripping the old covering, inspecting the rafters and battens, replacing anything damaged and laying new underlay, battens and tiles or slates. On a terrace, this includes the lead and the verge or abutment against the next house, which have to be rebuilt carefully so that water cannot pass between the two roofs.
Narrow streets can make access and skip placement a practical question, so it is worth talking that through before a start date is set.
- Clay or concrete tiles suited to the pitch and structure
- Natural or manufactured slate with proper fixings
- Party wall and abutment details renewed with the covering
- Rear extension and outrigger roofs in flat or pitched form
- Garage and outbuilding roofs
- Structural checks and replacement of damaged timbers
Things to settle before work starts
Work that changes the shape of a roof, or adds an extension, may need planning permission or building regulations approval, so check with your local council. Where a roof is shared or touches a neighbour's, it is polite and practical to let them know what is planned.
If you want to talk about a replacement, call or WhatsApp Evans Roofing with photos of the front and rear slopes, and we will give you a quote.

New Roofs in Netherfield: common questions
Can one house in a terrace be re-roofed on its own?
Yes, in most cases, as long as the junctions with the neighbouring roofs are dealt with properly. The tie-in at each side is planned so the new roof and the old one meet cleanly.
What if only the back slope is in poor condition?
A single slope can sometimes be replaced alone, and we will look at both before recommending it. If the front is close behind in age, doing both together may avoid a second round of access.
