Fresh Fascias, Soffits and Guttering in Retford
There comes a point where old fascia boards have had their day. The paint has gone, the timber has softened, and the gutters bolted to them sag or leak. In Retford, where homes range from period terraces to recent builds, the roofline is often the first thing to show its age. Overflowing water down an outside wall is a common symptom that the system has stopped coping.

We cover Retford and the neighbouring villages for new fascias, soffits, guttering and downpipes, and for repairs where full replacement is unnecessary. The right answer depends on what is behind the gutter.
When to repair and when to replace
A leaking joint or a loose bracket can be repaired in minutes. A gutter that has been patched repeatedly, or that is fixed to a rotten fascia, will keep letting you down. Boards that are replaced in uPVC need minimal upkeep compared with painted timber, and they give a neat, consistent edge.
A full roofline replacement covers fascias, soffits, gutters, downpipes and associated components together, and gives a consistent finish. Downpipes that have cracked, shifted or are loose at the joints need fixing at the same visit, or they will undo the new work.

Older terraces and later extensions
On older buildings the eaves can be deep and the timbers behind the boards need looking at before anything is fixed. On newer houses, soffits often incorporate ventilation, and it matters to keep it when boards are replaced. Some properties will also have a dry verge or bargeboards at the gable that benefit from being renewed alongside the main roofline.

Fascias, Soffits and Guttering in Retford: common questions
Can I fit new gutters to old fascia boards?
Only if the boards are sound and the fixings will hold. If the timber is soft or split, new gutters would not stay secure for long. Checking the rafter ends behind the board is a sensible part of the job.
Why are my soffits discoloured or sagging?
Moisture from a leaking gutter or a blocked roof edge is the usual cause. Replacing them, and fixing the source of the water, prevents it happening again. Ventilation needs to be kept when soffits are replaced, especially where the loft has been insulated.
