Roof Windows in Stapleford: Supply and Fitting
Many Stapleford semis have a loft that could become a bedroom, office or storage room with proper daylight. A roof window is one way of getting there, and it is often a more modest change than a dormer. A loft with a skylight feels much larger, and natural light makes storage, hobby or office use far more practical.
Evans Roofing Services supplies and fits roof windows, including VELUX and other makes. It is an independent contractor and is not VELUX-approved, so the choice of make is open. Leaking or tired windows already in the roof can be replaced, or the surrounding flashing renewed, without changing the look of the house.
Is the roof suitable?
The size of the opening, the position of the rafters, the headroom inside and the roof covering all matter. Inter-war semis often have a generous roof space, while terraces have less, and post-war houses vary with their construction. Where a loft is only used for storage, the covering and structure still need to be sound before adding an opening. A short roof inspection ahead of fitting avoids fitting a new window into a tired section of roof.
Building regulations approval may apply to roof windows and loft conversions, so check with your local council. Check any lease or covenant conditions that apply to your property too.

Leaks and older windows
If a roof window drips, the flashing and the tiles around it are looked at first, since faults there are more common than a defective window. An older unit can often be replaced with a modern one if a suitable size is available. Condensation and cold bridging can mimic a leak, so these are ruled out before blaming the flashing.

VELUX Roof Windows in Stapleford: common questions
Can I choose a make other than VELUX?
Yes. VELUX and other makes can be supplied and fitted, and the business is not VELUX-approved. A rough idea of the size you want helps when selecting a suitable unit.
Will fitting a roof window disturb the rest of the roof?
Only locally. Tiles around the opening are lifted, a flashing set is fitted and the covering is made good, while the rest of the roof stays as it is.
