Roof Window Fitting in Eastwood: VELUX and Other Makes

To be clear, Evans Roofing is an independent contractor and is not VELUX-approved. The windows are fitted to the manufacturer's instructions, and the choice of make is yours. Rooflights for flat roofs on extensions and garages are also part of the work, as are repairs to windows that already leak. Whatever the make, the success of the job depends on the opening being framed properly and the flashing matching the roof covering around it.

What suits an older roof

Cutting an opening affects the rafters and the covering around it, so the structure and the tile or slate type are checked first. On older terraces with slate, the flashing needs to be dressed to suit the covering so that the junction stays watertight.

Roof window and loft conversion work may need building regulations approval, so check with your local council.

• New roof window installation in suitable pitched roofs
• Replacing older units where a suitable size is available
• Flashings matched to the roof covering
• Rooflights for flat roofs
• Loft and attic windows for daylight

Leaks, maintenance and replacements

Many roof window leaks come from the flashing or the surrounding tiles, not the glass itself, so the installation details are checked before blaming the unit. A periodic look at the surround, seals and neighbouring tiles catches problems early. Debris collecting against the upper edge, for example, can hold water where it should run off, and an older unit that has failed can often be replaced where a suitable product and size are available.
