Moss and Algae Removal for Mansfield Roofs and Gutters

Before any cleaning, we look at what the roof is made of and what is growing on it. A soft green carpet of moss, a black algae film and flaky grey lichen are not the same problem, and slate needs gentler treatment than a sturdy concrete tile. Roofs under trees and on the shady side of a building usually need more attention than open, sunny slopes.

How the work is done

Heavy growth is cleared by hand where the covering allows, and surfaces are then cleaned with low-pressure methods suited to the material. Debris is cleared from the roof so it does not end up in the gutters. Roofs with thick moss may need more than one stage, with clearing first and cleaning afterwards.

Treatment, and a check at the same time

A biocide may help control regrowth, but it cannot guarantee that moss will not return. How quickly it comes back depends on shade, damp and the roof material. Where moss has been left for a long time, tiles can look worn once cleaned, and that is useful information, not a fault with the cleaning.
