Flat Roofing in Clifton: Garages, Porches and Extensions
Walk down a typical Clifton street and the main roof is usually a pitched one, but look sideways and there is often a flat-roofed garage, a porch or a rear extension. These are the roofs that take the pooled water, and they are the ones that fail first. A small roof can cause a large problem if the water has been getting in for a while.

Evans Roofing replaces and repairs flat roofs across Clifton, West Bridgford and the surrounding areas, using EPDM rubber, felt or GRP fibreglass, depending on what the building needs.
Which material for which roof
EPDM is a flexible rubber membrane, widely used on suitable flat and low-pitched roofs, and repair work starts by looking at seams, edges and penetrations. Felt is the traditional choice, and GRP gives a continuous fibreglass surface. Garage roofs are often left alone for a long time, since nobody walks on them and nobody sees the surface.
The edges and drainage deserve as much thought as the main surface. Flat roof work may need building regulations approval, so check with your local council.

Extensions and garages alongside the main roof
Extensions and garages with flat roofs are common in suburban streets, and they are worth checking alongside the main roof. Leaks at the junction between the two are frequent, and it is worth looking at the abutment flashing when you look at the flat surface. Leaves, moss and silt collect in outlets and corners, so a clear-out is part of the visit.

Flat Roofing and EPDM in Clifton: common questions
Why does my garage roof keep holding water?
Usually because the fall is shallow, the deck has sagged or an outlet is blocked. Standing water speeds up wear, so it is worth correcting. Ponding also adds weight to a deck that may already be tired.
Is EPDM or GRP better for a small extension?
Both are used on extensions and the right one depends on the structure and detailing. We would look at the roof, or photos of it, before recommending either. The roof deck, the fall and the way the edges are detailed all matter more than the label on the product.
